Importance of Maintaining a Healthy Body

Allah Swt says in the Holy Quran: “Indeed, Allah commands justice, the doing of good, and giving to kindred. And He forbids indecency, transgression, and wrongdoing. He admonishes you that you may take heed.” (Quran 16:90). The phrase “doing of good” includes taking care of our bodies and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Allah has blessed us with a body, and it is our duty to take care of it.

The Role of Good Nutrition

Allah also provides us with the knowledge of good nutrition in the Quran. For example, “Eat of the goodness which Allah has provided for you” (Quran 2:172). This verse highlights the importance of consuming nutritious and healthy foods. We also find the concept of balance and moderation in the Quranic verses related to food. In Surah Al-A’raf, Allah says, “Eat and drink, but be not excessive, for Allah loves not the excessive” (Quran 7:31). This urges the believers to consume foods moderately.

Spiritual Dimension of Healing and Health

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “The healing is in the Mercy of Allah, and the sapling of prophethood is in wisdom” (Sahih Muslim). This Hadith highlights the importance of spiritual healing for total wellness. It is not just about taking care of the physical body, but also about nurturing our souls through acts of obedience to Allah, seeking His forgiveness, and imploring Him for healing.

The Significance of Cleanliness and Hygiene

Cleanliness is not just important from a hygiene perspective but also from an Islamic point of view. Allah says in the Quran, “Allah loves those who make themselves clean and pure” (Quran 2:222). This verse instructs us to pay attention to our personal hygiene too. It highlights the importance of cleanliness both physically and spiritually. Cleanliness also includes the cleanliness of one’s mind, heart, and soul.

The Quran’s Perspective on Chronic Illnesses

Dealing with chronic illnesses can be challenging. However, the Quran provides us with guidance on such situations too. Allah says in the Quran, “We shall try you until we know those who strive hard and persevere patiently” (Quran 31:6). In Islamic Tradition, Hazrat Abdalla allaih isala mu alaya oo has told in his statement, “The patient until Allah relieves him or companions him with his destiny is in a better state.” This highlights that dealing with chronic illnesses with patience and perseverance can earn great rewards from Allah.
